Rain washes fertilizer into our waterways, feeding algae blooms.
Don't let the rain wash your fertilizer down the drain! Check the forecast and avoid fertilizing when rain is coming. Not only is it a waste of money, it overloads our waterways with nutrients that fuel algal blooms. Fertilizing in March or April, and then again in the Fall is the best way to make the most of your efforts. For more ways you can keep our waters free of pollutants, check out our flyer on how your landscape maintenance can protect our waters.

Fix Car Leaks to Keep Waterways Clean
Keep our waterways clean by taking care of any liquids leaking from your car as soon as possible. Oil, lubricants, washing fluids and other drips get washed into storm drains when it rains. Storm drains empty into our waterways, where such liquids damage the wildlife and their habitat. For more ways to keep our waterways clean with smart vehicle maintenance, check out our flyer.
