All garbage, recycling and yard waste collections in the Village of Estero will take place one day after the regularly scheduled collection day for the entire week beginning May 27. This means that if your regular collection day is Monday, the collection truck will pick up that material on Tuesday. Tuesday’s regularly scheduled pickups will occur on Wednesday and so on, the rest of the week through Saturday. This schedule is in effect through Saturday, June 1. Lee County Utilities ends free chlorine flush

Lee County Utilities on Tuesday, May 21, will end the free chlorine flush, which will involve converting its disinfection process from a free chlorine residual back to chloramines as the primary disinfectant. The free chlorine flush, which began May 1, is a routine measure common among water utilities that use chloramines as a primary disinfectant. Anyone who uses a kidney dialysis machine at home should contact an equipment supplier so the proper filtering equipment may be installed. Tropical fish or aquatic animal owners should contact a local tropical fish store for appropriate pretreatment of water before adding it to tanks. [Read More.]

Council will start their meeting at 9:30 a.m., May 15, to determine how to address the vacancies on the Design Review Board and approve liaison assignments. The meeting will be followed by a workshop for updates on the Estero on the River, Parks, Recreation & Open Space and the Village website. Council meetings are held at the Village Hall at 9401 Corkscrew Palms Circle, adjacent to the entrance to the Estero Community Park.

Council will conduct a public hearing for a settlement agreement between the Village of Estero and Argo Corkscrew Crossing at their meeting at 9:30 a.m., May 1. In addition, Council will consider whether to participate in the Urban County Cooperation Agreement and to appeal the Estero Town Center (Aldi) development order. Following the meeting there will be a workshop for an update of the Estero Parkway landscape project. The Planning & Zoning Board and Design Review Board conducted a joint meeting for a presentation of the proposed Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan. A consultant for the project reviewed the fact that there had been a number of ways for the community to participate in the planning process.  Over 1,000 comments were made online, there were focus groups with a mix of people representing the chamber of commerce, business, the park, etc., and two public workshops were conducted. Presentation Dr. Sandra Kauanui, Florida Gulf Coast University’s Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, announced they are conducting a fundraising effort in order to build a new Center on campus to support this important program.  The Center is currently housed off-campus in the Emergent Technologies Institute.  They have been given a commitment of $4 million to be matched by the community.
