Council approved a reduced tax rate, FY 2018-2019 budget and proposed land purchase at their meeting on September 20, 2018
Council voted to adopt a reduction in the millage rate from 0.7798 to 0.7750 mills. This is the third year Council has reduced the millage rate, which is the lowest tax rate in all of Southwest Florida. In addition, they adopted the FY 2018-2019 budget. The proposed expenditures are as follows: General Fund $ 6,153,640 Special Revenue 1,179,460 Debt Service 1,600,000 Capital Projects 37,099,020 Total $46,032,120 The Village now has 10 months, or $5.1 million, in operating reserves. Council will conduct a final public hearing and adoption of the 2018-2019 ad valorem tax rate and budget at their meeting at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 20. In addition, they will consider adopting a resolution approving the land purchase along the Estero River. This is 62 acres of land on the northeast corner of Corkscrew Road and US 41 which extends north to Judeth Lane and east to the railroad tracks. The Planning & Zoning Board will conduct a public hearing for the Miromar Outlet Hotel at their meeting at 4:00 p.m., September 18. The hotel, which will consist of 135 rooms on four floors, is located in the northwest quadrant of the Miromar Outlet Mall on approximately 2.1 acres, south of Germain Arena, abutting I-75 and a lake. Public Hearing Coconut Point Ford Pre-owned Vehicles monument sign The applicant presented their proposal to install one double-faced ground sign, a 3–4 foot retaining wall and modify landscape and grading at the southwest corner of US 41 and Galloway Ford Drive. The sign will be set 17 feet off the roadway, include internal LED lighting for the lettering and the paint color of the sign will mimic the existing dealership signage. Proposed Riverfront Land Purchase Workshop Village Manager Steve Sarkozy briefed Council and a packed Council Chambers on a prospective environmental land purchase. This is 62 acres on the northeast corner of US 41 and Corkscrew Road and extends north to the Estero United Methodist Church and east to the railroad tracks. This includes a significant portion of the Estero River. Initial plans would call to preserve the heritage trees on the south end of the property, protect the river and provide a source of recreation for Estero residents.
