Each year, the Estero Historical Society celebrates the 4th of July by bringing segments of history connected with the signing of the Declaration of Independence “to life” for all to enjoy. This annual free celebration starts at 9 a.m., Thursday, July 4, with local historian Jacob Winge who will be reading the Declaration dressed in authentic 18th-century period costume. The Estero Fire Rescue team also will be there to raise the flag. Following the ceremony, watermelon will be served picnic-style for all attendees to enjoy. Lee County Board of County Commissioners Summer of Safety Demonstration at the park was postponed due to heavy rains.; it will be rescheduled soon.  The event will introduce Lee County’s new AED technology and will provide a demonstration at 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 11. Join the Lee County Sheriff's Office for an informative "Lunch & Learn" presented by ACT (Abuse Counseling and Treatment) addressing "Sexual Violence, Domestic Violence and Human Trafficking: Detection and Resources" on Thursday, May 30, from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm. ACT will address these disconcerting matters, helping attendees better understand them and learn about available resources. Lee County Parks & Recreation’s Estero Recreation Center will host the National High School Gymnastics Association Senior Showcase Invitational on Friday and Saturday, May 17 and 18. This event features 100 high school senior girls from across the U.S. representing their individual states in a competition. The event is a culminating event for the high school careers of these top athletes. The competition begins at 9 a.m. and continues until about 2 p.m. Friday at the Estero Recreation Center, 9200 Corkscrew Palms Blvd. On Saturday, competition begins at 9 a.m. and lasts until about noon. The Estero Athletic Booster Club is hosting its 4th annual fundraising golf tournament at 8 a.m., Sunday, August 18, at The Club at Renaissance in Fort Myers. The event will include a 4-person scramble, lunch and presentation of awards following golf. The 12th annual “Breaking Par at Grandezza” is a two-day fundraising event to benefit Estero High School students who don’t have the resources to go on to college or trade schools. You may support this event by playing in the shotgun/scramble at Grandezza at 8:30 a.m., Saturday, April 13. and/or attending the gala dinner at Grandezza at 5:30 – 8:15 p.m., Sunday, April 14. The shotgun/scramble will feature lots of fun games while supporting Estero educational initiatives.  The shotgun/scramble will be followed by a delicious luncheon.
