The Village is providing an opportunity for you to provide feedback regarding your priorities for the uses on the 62-acre Estero on the River property. Brian Canin, the Village’s consultant, has conducted one public meeting with a second scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 30. Canin explains that the 16 acres on the south side of the river is green with a mature forest appropriate for nature and civic uses but the north side of the river is an abandoned orange grove more appropriate for some residential and small commercial uses. Estero on the River public meeting held on September 12, with second scheduled for September 30, 2020
Village consultant Brian Canin is conducting these meetings to encourage input from residents regarding what they want to see happen with this property. The 62-acre Estero on the River property is the land that faces the northeast corner of Corkscrew Road and US 41, encompasses a ¼ mile frontage of Estero River, and extends north to Judith Lane and east to the railroad tracks. Canin explained that there are different characteristics on either side of the river. The Village wants to hear your opinion on the uses for the Village’s Estero on the River property. The Village’s consultant Canin Associates will be conducting two public meetings to gather input from residents. The meetings will be held in the council chambers at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, September 12 and again at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 30. Estero on the River topic for Village Council workshop on September 1, 2020
Village consultant Canin Associates will conduct a workshop on the Estero on the River property for the Village Council at 3 p.m. on Tuesday. Canin Associates is assisting the Village with its efforts to identify ideas for use of the Estero on the River property. Purpose of this workshop is to solicit feedback from Council. No decisions are made during workshops. There will be additional sessions held this month to solicit input from the public. Estero on the River bank loan, US 41 median landscaping and Estero Parkway among items addressed by Council on December 5, 2018 Action Items
Estero on the River 10-year Bank Loan Council approved awarding the fixed rate, 10-year bank loan RFP to Capital Bank, a division of First Tennessee Bank to provide funding for the Estero on the River land purchase. The purchase price of $26,000,000 will be funded by a down payment of $5,000,000 from the general fund and debt providing for the remainder of $21,000,000. Council takes another step toward acquiring land adjacent to the Estero River at their special meeting on October 31, 2018
Council adopted a new resolution approving the purchase and sale agreement with the Trust for Public Land for 62 acres of land adjacent to the Estero River at their meeting on October 31. This special meeting was conducted to waive the rules in order to reconsider the vote from the last meeting on Resolution 2018-18 and address this new resolution. Action Item Resolution No. 2018-18 – Estero River Land Purchase Council adopted this resolution with changes made to the purchase and sale agreement. The resolution authorizes the amended purchase and sale agreement with The Trust for Public Lands for 62 acres of land adjacent to the Estero River. Public Comment Barbara Saxton, Friends of River Oaks Preserve, stated the group is now comprised of 12 members. Volunteers from FGCU and the ROTC will be helping clear some of the invasives on the property and the group is planning a music festival in November. Council approved a reduced tax rate, FY 2018-2019 budget and proposed land purchase at their meeting on September 20, 2018
Council voted to adopt a reduction in the millage rate from 0.7798 to 0.7750 mills. This is the third year Council has reduced the millage rate, which is the lowest tax rate in all of Southwest Florida. In addition, they adopted the FY 2018-2019 budget.
