Estero Recreation Center is closed
In an abundance of caution, Lee County will be suspending all programs for the next 30 days, including the closing of Recreation Centers, Dog Parks, Libraries and Community Pools. This immediate suspension of activities aligns with the State Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control’s recommendation to avoid large groups.
State of local emergency approved by Council on March 18, 2020
Council approved a state of local emergency resolution due to the coronavirus outbreak at their meeting on March 18. As a result, a majority of the Village staff will work remotely; almost all building, public works, records and meeting comment requests will be taken digitally; the Happehatchee Center programming is canceled; there will be daily disinfecting of all surfaces in the Village Hall, and there will continue to be close coordination with Lee County, neighboring cities and fire districts. Happehatchee Center to close through end of March 2020
The Village of Estero has temporarily suspended all programming at the Happehatchee Center. The Center will be closed to the public, at least through the end of March. The Happehatchee Center is located at 8791 Corkscrew Road.
Virtual public participation starting with the Village Council meeting on March 18, 2020
The 9:30 a.m., Wednesday Village Council meeting will proceed as planned and residents will be able to participate virtually instead of in person, if they choose. This service will be available for all upcoming Council, Planning & Zoning Board and Design Review Board meetings as long as social distancing is recommended. Parks, Recreation & Open Spaces Master Plan on the agenda for the Council meeting on Wednesday, March 18, 2020
Council will start their meeting at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, addressing a resolution for the Parks, Recreation & Open Spaces Master Plan. Also on the agenda is a request for bid for street sweeping services in Estero and the Village Attorney’s report on the Happehatchee Center and the Pelican Landing traffic signal. Coronavirus information webpage added to the Village of Estero website
The Village of Estero has added a Coronavirus Information webpage on our website to help keep residents informed with the latest information from the CDC and local health departments. The http://estero-fl.gov/coronavirus/ page is set up to display the latest tweets from the CDC, Lee County Health Department, and Lee Health. As soon as new tweets are posted by the health departments, they are posted on this page. If you are not feeling well, please call your primary physician first. March 10 and March 12 CIP open houses postponed
The two March evening open houses to discuss the Village’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP) have been temporarily postponed. Council plans to conduct a CIP workshop during their April 1 on April 8 meetings. The community open houses will be scheduled sometime following these two workshops. The updated information will be posted on the Village website as soon as the dates are scheduled.
Upcoming Opportunities to help guide future projects in Estero
What improvements do you think Estero needs most? The Village of Estero will be hosting two evening open houses to discuss the Village’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP). The CIP outlines how the Village will spend funds on roadway, landscaping, bicycle/pedestrian, stormwater, and parks/recreation projects over the next five years. These community open houses will provide the best opportunity for residents to actively discuss the various projects and their priority with Village Staff.
