Residents will be able to dispose of household chemical waste safely and responsibly from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Wednesday, January 17. Items will not be accepted either before or after that time period. Chemical waste categories include items that are ignitable, corrosive, explosive and/or reactive and toxic, such as leftover paints, cleaners, herbicides, pesticides, automotive fluids and pool chemicals. Never dispose of these items in dumpsters, compactors or at curbside with household garbage or down a storm drain or in the soil. Jim Shields to be named the Don Eslick Estero Person of the Year on February 8
Engage Estero is inviting residents to help celebrate and honor Jim Shields at the inaugural “Don Eslick Estero Person of the Year Award” dinner at 6 p.m., Thursday, February 8, at The Club at Grandezza. For over 19 years, Jim Shields has provided leadership and commitment to maintaining and improving the quality of life in Estero and, notably, improving education in our community. He created the 2-5-8 Graduate Junior Achievement program, including 135 volunteers, impacting over 2800 students. Estero Recreation Center hosting a Parents Night Out on January 20
Estero Recreation Center will host a Parents Night Out program from 4:30 to 9 p.m., Saturday, January 20, at 9200 Corkscrew Palms Blvd. This special event is for children ages 6-13 years old. Activities will include games and a pizza dinner. The cost is $5 for members. Pre-register at www.leeparks.org/register. The registration deadline is noon Friday, January 19. Information security policy Florida Statute 282.3185 Local Government Cybersecurity Act requires certain standards be met by local governments. The Village of Estero’s information security policy was created and reviewed by the Village’s information technology consultants, Calvin, Giordano & Associates, to meet the requirements of this statute.
