Second pickup of appliances damaged by Hurricane Ian to start November 12, 2022
The Village’s debris hauling trucks will be coming through each community a second time to pick up white goods starting November 12. Please place any remaining white goods that were damaged by Hurricane Ian along the roadway by Friday, November 11, 2022. White goods are appliances including washing machines, dryers, stoves, refrigerators, freezers, water heaters, AC units, etc. If you have any issues getting your white goods out to the street by November 11, please let the Village know by calling 239-221-5035.

There has been a lot of publicity about local communities destroyed by Hurricane Ian, but many people don’t realize there are communities within our own Village of Estero that were devastated following the hurricane. Approximately 1,000 homes were drastically affected. Those communities west of US 41 were hit the hardest, in particular those living along West Broadway. These mobile home communities* have been home to residents for many years and some have lost everything – their cars, their household furnishings, clothing and precious keepsakes. Flood Insurance Rate Maps, Coconut Trace, Pelican Sound and Genova among topics addressed by Council on November 2, 2022
Public Comment on non-agenda items: George Zaluki, Chair, Board of Directors, Estero Forever Foundation (EFF), gave an update on the Foundation’s Hurricane Ian relief fund. To date, about $91,000 has been donated by Estero residents, churches and businesses. All monies will go to Estero residents who were drastically affected by the hurricane, primarily those residents along West Broadway. AT&T Cell Tower and Market Place at Coconut Point among presenters to the Planning, Zoning & Design Board on November 8, 2022
The Board will start their meeting at 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, with a public hearing for the proposed 99-foot monopole (and 1 foot lightning arrester) to be located at 3231 Coconut Road, adjacent to the Bonita Springs-Estero Elks Lodge. Public hearings will also be held for the Market Place at Coconut Point, a mixed-use commercial development located at 8001 Via Rapallo Drive, and Rivercreek Phase 2 of the Estero Crossing development at 12840 Corkscrew Road, east of Wildcat Run. The Village of Estero is providing links to the latest information offered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Florida’s Attorney General’s Office on its website. Presented both in English and Spanish, the information includes available resources for those working to recover from the hurricane, as well as warnings of prevalent scams. These links are updated on the website as soon as new information becomes available.
Coconut Trace, Pelican Sound and Genova among topics for consideration by Council on November 2, 2022
Council will start their meeting at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday addressing financial support for the Greater Estero Chamber of Commerce’s strategic plans for future growth and impact. There will be a first reading of an ordinance pertaining to the new Flood Insurance Rate Maps, and second readings for two Land Development Code amendments and zoning amendments for Coconut Trace, Pelican Sound and Genova. Corkscrew Road widening update from Lee County October 28, 2022
The following work activities are scheduled to occur, however unforeseen underground conditions and weather may affect this schedule. Crews are currently working on the south side (eastbound) roadway. The contractor anticipates shifting traffic in early 2023 to allow for the construction of the bridge (animal crossing), box culverts, and roadway on the north side (westbound) of the project. Crews continue construction of the bridge/wildlife crossing between Wild Blue Boulevard and The Preserve at Corkscrew that will allow animals to cross under Corkscrew Road, similar to the crossing just east of Alico Road. Public Hearing Pelican Sound River Club zoning amendment The applicant was requesting to amend the Pelican Sound zoning and master concept plan to allow for pickleball facilities within the golf maintenance and storage area. Please make sure all hurricane debris is placed in separate piles (building debris & yard waste). No hazardous materials, recyclable materials or regular household trash should be included in either pile. Do not place any hurricane debris in plastic bags or trash cans as the debris hauler is not able to pick up any debris that is placed in plastic bags or trash cans.
