The Board will start their meeting at 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, with public information meetings for development orders for pickleball courts at Estero Country Club, Summercrest (formerly Estero Townhomes) on the corner of Corkscrew Road and Sandy Lane, and Via Coconut on the west side of Via Coconut Point The Board will also conduct a public information meeting for the Estero Sports Park located north of Williams Road and east of Via Coconut Point. Council will start their meeting at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 4, with a proclamation for the late Leonard “Scotty” Wood, who had most recently served as chairman of the Planning, Zoning & Design Board. The Estero Sports Park project and design team will review the results of the two recent public information meetings and provide the project’s schedule. Florida Power & Light FPL representatives Charlotte Miller, FPL External Affairs Manager, and Josh Whitaker provided explanations for the power outages experienced in the community following Hurricane Milton. Causes included salt spray not disbursed due to lack of rain, and wind loosening electrical connections as well as falling vegetation. FPL representatives plan to come back for a workshop in January. Estero Sports Park (leased property) Council approved a contract with Perez Planning + Design LLC for design services for the Estero Sports Park.  The contract amount is $321,990, with a contingency of $34,000. Among the contractor’s responsibilities are preparing a master plan, holding 2 meetings for public input, guidelines for the site layout, and preparing a pattern book that summarizes the project’s design. The site is approximately 100 acres which will eventually be shared by the Village, Estero High School, County and residents.  The property is located adjacent to the Estero High School and Estero’s Entertainment District on Williams Road. Estero Sports Park (leased property) Council will start their meeting at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, reviewing a contract with Perez Planning + Design LLC to prepare schematic plan and design guidelines for the Estero Sports Park. They will then address two contracts with Manhattan Construction for Phase 1 improvements to the 63.7 acres of Estero on the River property located on the east side of US 41 north of Corkscrew Road. Council will consider an amendment to a contract with Wright Construction for the construction of the Corkscrew Road pathway, lighting and landscaping improvements, and a contract with Haggarty Consulting Inc. Community leaders gathered for a ribbon cutting ceremony, for the newly installed state of the art turf field at Jeff Sommer Stadium on August 23, 2024. Estero Mayor Jon McLain welcomed the crowd, Estero High Director of Athletics David LaRosa and Estero High Principal Jennifer Biddell honored the late Athletic Director and Coach Jeff Sommer for whom the stadium is named. Residents are invited to attend a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new, professional-level turf field at Jeff Sommer Stadium at 5 p.m. Friday, August 23. The celebration will feature music, food trucks and remarks from Village and school officials. Then at 7:30 p.m., watch the Estero Wildcats compete against the Riverdale Raiders in their first game of the season. Over the summer, the Village of Estero had Hellas Construction, Inc., install artificial turf at the football field.
