Garbage, recycling and yard waste to be collected on the same day Beginning Monday, May 16, residents of Estero only have to put their trash, recycling and yard waste to the curb once a week. Waste Pro, Lee County’s contracted hauler for the area, is announcing the service enhancement through postcards mailed to each of the 45,500 affected addresses. For questions, contact Waste Pro customer service at 239-337-0800. Posters have been distributed to area libraries, recreation centers and businesses to help inform residents of the change. ECCL’s Adopt-A-Highway volunteers Frank Connolly, Sharon Hall and John Hersh gathering litter along Hwy 41. Kudos to the many Estero residents who joined together again this season to help keep our roadways free of litter and looking beautiful. Residents volunteered through three programs: FDOT’s Adopt-A-Highway Program, Lee County’s Adopt-A-Road Program and the Village of Estero’s Adopt-A-Road Program supported by Keep Lee County Beautiful. Estero High School students are in the process of videotaping a Public Service Announcement (PSA) to help educate the public on better road safety. The Estero students’ PSA addresses what can result from driving drunk. The videotaping is taking place over several days and is being coordinated by Kea McElfresh, Theater/TV Production teacher with Estero High School, with WINK-TV, Estero Fire Rescue, Lee County Sherriff’s Office, Bonita Video and Estero Life Magazine. Council presented Burt Saunders, Esq., Gray Robinson P.A., with a proclamation recognizing him for serving as Village Attorney since the Village’s first meeting on March 17, 2015 through April 20, 2022.  Saunders was acknowledged for being uniquely qualified to provide assistance to a newly established government, and being integral to establishing procedures from the Village’s initial startup to present. Lockwood House The meeting started with a short briefing on the Estero on the River property by Community Development Director Mary Gibbs and Public Works Director David Willems.  This is the 67-acre property off of US 41 and Corkscrew Road. The portion of the property south of the river will be rezoned for park and open space public use. The Village plans to construct walking trails as the first phase. The property contains several older buildings and structures that had previously been identified as potential historical resources.
