Village consultants Clarion Associates and Johnson Engineering conducted a workshop on the proposed Land Development Code (LDC) Part 2. LDC, which is required by the state, provides guidelines for all development and re-development in the Village.  It addresses architecture, open space and parking, landscaping, sidewalks, bike/ped improvements, traffic and stormwater and the types of permits required for these projects. Part 2 of the LDC focuses on the site development standards, natural resources, public facility funding and coordination, and nonconformities. Council will start their meeting at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, addressing an amendment to the comprehensive plan to add Coconut Landing to the future land use map.  This is a 10-acre parcel voluntarily annexed to the Village located one mile west of US 41 on the north side of Coconut Road. There will be first readings for ordinances pertaining to illicit discharges to stormwater systems and an amendment to allow for a Firestone Tire Center at the Estero Town Center (Lowe’s plaza). The Board will conduct a workshop on the Land Development Code at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday.  They will be addressing the site development standards and natural resources portion of the code. Public Comment on non-agenda items: 2 residents stated pickleball should be allowed in gated communities, 1 resident gave an update on the Estero Chamber of Commerce and 1 resident turned over the keys to the River Oaks Preserve as they are moving out of Estero. The Board conducted a public hearing for Lake Michigan Credit Union’s request for approval of the revised color scheme for the exterior of their existing building and to add two windows to the southern façade. They are retaining the stone knee wall and using a light and dark beige paint on the walls with a blue accent color. Lake Michigan Credit Union is located at  21910 S. The Board started with a public information meeting for the School District of Lee County.  The School District will be requesting a Comprehensive Plan Amendment to develop an elementary and middle school on Three Oaks Parkway. The 68.5-acre undeveloped parcel is located south of Copper Oaks, southeast of the Post Office and bounded by Three Oaks Parkway on the west and I-75 on the east. Village of Estero Mayor Bill Ribble and Lee County Commissioner Ray Sandelli joined community volunteers handing out PPE equipment early Saturday morning. A steady stream of residents turned out on a sunny Saturday to pick up their free PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) materials. The PPE handout was a reusable Estero branded shopping bag filled with an N95 mask (made in the USA), reusable Estero branded mask and hand sanitizer bottle. Village of Estero volunteers will be handing out free personal protection equipment (PPE) from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m., Saturday, October 24, 2020 at the following locations: Goodwill Industries, 10351 Corkscrew Commons Drive (map) Estero United Methodist Church, 8088 Lord’s Way, corner of US41 & Broadway (map) The PPE handout includes N95 masks (made in the USA) and branded Estero reusable masks, hand sanitizer bottles and grocery bags. These PPE are being provided through the CARES Act and are meant to encourage mask and hand sanitizer use during the continuing COVID pandemic.
