Lee County has launched a webpage that will allow residents, property owners and businesses to keep up to date on the response to red tide in the Gulf of Mexico and blue-green algae in the Caloosahatchee River and area canals. Lee County ranks third in the state with a 74 percent recycling rate, according to data recently released by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, putting the county on track to meet the statewide 75 percent recycling goal by 2020. But achieving that goal will not be easy. In order to reach the 74 percent rate, Lee County’s recycling contractor had to pull 19.4 million pounds of trash out of the recycling carts.
