As you know, hurricane season starts today, June 1 and runs through November 30, 2019. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), has stated nine to 15 named storms will develop during this season. This number includes tropical storms. Lee County has created a new website to provide residents with information regarding the widening of Corkscrew Road. Lee County will share information on this new website, distribute project newsletters and fact sheets, make presentations to small groups and organizations, and conduct public meetings. The website includes a Frequently Asked Questions page as well as a way to contact those in charge of the project.  Public involvement is an important part of the process.  Your feedback will help identify issues of concern and develop potential solutions. The Bonita Springs/Estero Elks Lodge is holding a Memorial Day luncheon at 11 a.m., Monday, May 27. Featured luncheon speaker will be the Village of Estero’s Vice Mayor Katy Errington. All residents are invited to attend to remember and honor those who served our country.  The lunch is $10. The Elks Lodge is located at 3231 Coconut Road.

Lee County solid waste operations adjusted for Memorial Day

All garbage, recycling and yard waste collections in the Village of Estero will take place one day after the regularly scheduled collection day for the entire week beginning May 27. This means that if your regular collection day is Monday, the collection truck will pick up that material on Tuesday. Tuesday’s regularly scheduled pickups will occur on Wednesday and so on, the rest of the week through Saturday. This schedule is in effect through Saturday, June 1. Lee County Utilities ends free chlorine flush

Lee County Utilities on Tuesday, May 21, will end the free chlorine flush, which will involve converting its disinfection process from a free chlorine residual back to chloramines as the primary disinfectant. The free chlorine flush, which began May 1, is a routine measure common among water utilities that use chloramines as a primary disinfectant. Anyone who uses a kidney dialysis machine at home should contact an equipment supplier so the proper filtering equipment may be installed. Council will start their meeting at 9:30 a.m., May 15, to determine how to address the vacancies on the Design Review Board and approve liaison assignments. Council meetings are held at the Village Hall at 9401 Corkscrew Palms Circle, adjacent to the entrance to the Estero Community Park.
