River Oaks and Public Works Update on the agenda for Council on February 16, 2022
Council will start their meeting at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, recognizing Julie Yellig, who serves as the ECCL/Adopt-a-Highway Coordinator. They will then address an FY 2021-2022 interlocal agreement between Estero and Lee County for Stray Animal Control Services. Workshop items include a 10-acre vacant parcel at the east end of Broadway Avenue known as River Oaks, a Public Works Update and an appointment to the Lee County Tourist Development Council. Council conducted workshops on River Oaks Park and Estero Parkway in addition to their meeting on January 17, 2018
Workshop River Oaks Park Barbara Saxton, Co-chair, “Friends of River Oaks Preserve”, and Debi Osborne, Conservation Foundation of the Gulf Coast, spoke about a 10-acre property at the eastern end of E. Broadway. The group is advocating the Village purchase the property and keep it as a natural preserve with community access. (Presentation) Public Comment: 10 neighboring residents spoke regarding this issue, with the majority being against the proposed park/preserve due to safety, security, poor access, parking and maintenance issues.
