The Council meeting will start at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, with the presentation of the key to the city to former Dist. 1 Councilmember Bill Ribble, Dist. 2 Councilmember Howard Levitan and Dist. 6 Councilmember Nick Batos, all who completed their terms on March 3, 2021. Bill Ribble most recently served as Estero’s Mayor, Howard Levitan served as Estero’s first Vice-Mayor and Nick Batos served as Estero’s first Mayor. Council will start their meeting at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, with a swearing-in ceremony for three new Councilmembers: District 1, Joann Ribble; District 2, Larry Fiesel, and District 6, Jim Ward.  This will be followed by the election of a new mayor and vice-mayor. Vice-Mayor Errington opened the meeting describing the potential uses for the Estero on the River property.  She stated that the goals include preserving and protecting the river frontage and rare old growth forest, but may also include some limited residential and limited commercial development.  Estero residents will be included in the planning process for this property. Errington also spoke of some of the water quality studies the Village has had conducted, as well as a program to convert septic tanks to sewer. Council will start their meeting at 9:30 a.m., addressing a resolution pertaining to the Corkscrew Intersection Improvement Assessment.  These assessments will begin on October 1, 2021, and will be on select parcels for costs incurred by the Village related to the Corkscrew Road/Puente Lane intersection improvements project. Estero High girls varsity soccer team is seeded # 1 In the District playoff after their win of 8-0 over IDA Baker on January 29. Their next game will be the semi-finals at Estero High School’s Jeff Sommer Stadium Tuesday, February 2, at 7:00 pm. They will play the winner of Lely (#4) and Golden Gate (#5). If successful, they will then play at home again on Thursday, February 4 at 7:00 pm. All game tickets must be purchased in advance at https://gofan.co/app/school/FL13096 The high school stadium can accommodate 500 fans following CDC recommended guidelines.

Bonita Springs/Estero Elks Lodge #2753 held a car show on Saturday, January 23, 2021, to raise funds for the Army of Hope. The Army of Hope assists Florida active-duty military personnel, wounded veterans and family members of a military member killed in action. Estero Fire Rescue opened the event at 11 a.m. by raising the American flag which was followed by the judging of a variety of cars.
