Council will start the meeting with recognition of Estero High School students who achieved outstanding performance by Cambridge Assessment International Education, as well as for their “Principal of the Year” Clayton Simmons. The February 13 meeting started with a presentation by District 2 Councilmember Howard Levitan reviewing the role of the Design Review Board. Levitan stated the Land Development Code consultant will be assisting in reviewing the scope of the board, looking at having staff review and perform some of the work on smaller projects with the board reviewing and performing the major projects, adding a staff report to accompany applications, hiring experts to testify in certain cases, implementing Pattern Books for major rezonings, among other topics. More than 30 Estero residents turned out and participated in the first Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan workshop at the Estero Community Park on February 11. Project consultants provided a brief summary of the project to date, which is halfway completed.  Residents made comments during the opening presentation and were asked to participate by making their suggestions known on various charts as well as a map of Estero. Estero Grande is located west of US 41 at the intersection of Estero Parkway and US 41. Recognition Policy Council came to a consensus to have staff come up with alternatives for recognizing not only Estero Council of Community Leaders Chairman Emeritus Don Eslick but others in the future.  Staff will come back in the March – April timeframe with recommendations. Estero Wildcats (16-4-2) will face Braden River in the first round of regional playoffs at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. They will play at Riverdale High School in Fort Myers since a new polyurethane track is going in at Estero High School which will take two weeks to install and a month to cure. The Wildcats became district champions with their 3-0 win over the Gulf Coast girls soccer team on January 29.
