Public hearings will be conducted for the Coconut Point Farmers’ Market, setback variances in The Brooks and Villages of Country Creek, as well as ordinances amending the Land Development Code pertaining to road impact fees, park impact fees and tree protection regulations. Planning & Zoning Board meetings are held at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers, 9401 Corkscrew Palms Circle, near the entrance to the Estero Community Park. Lake Okeechobee releases and Comprehensive Plan public hearing addressed by Council on June 13, 2018
Presentation City of Sanibel Mayor Kevin Ruane asked Council to support key messages for the US Army Corps of Engineers, Florida Department of Environmental Protection and the South Water Management District pertaining to releases from Lake Okeechobee and their negative impacts. He explained that there are 163 cities in Florida which are directly affected by these releases, having a negative impact on the local economy. The Village of Estero wants to be able to contact all residents with critical information before, during and after storms or regarding other severe emergency situations. In order to do this, the Village has added a new emergency alerts system sign-up page to its website. By registering on this new alerts system, you will be contacted with emergency information only. Broadway Avenue West construction project
Crews from JP Murphy Construction will be replacing the drainage pipe under Broadway Avenue West, located between Logan Avenue and Poinciana Avenue. Construction is expected to start the week of June 11, 2018, and last approximately two weeks. The existing metal pipe has reached the end of its service life and is being replaced by a larger concrete pipe. The new pipe will help improve drainage in the area. Cane toad warning
Giant poisonous toads are becoming an increasing issue throughout Florida and it is important to keep your pets away from them. Non-native cane toads appear everywhere from the Keys all the way to Lake Okeechobee and have been sighted in Estero recently. Please use caution when walking your pets.
