The Village is asking Estero residents who are military veterans, and who will be attending this event, to provide a brief biographical sketch in order to be recognized at the Village’s inaugural Veterans Day celebration from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, November 11, at the Estero Community Park. Residents who served in our nation’s military service are asked to give a brief description and dates of their service and email this information to Carol Sacco at sacco@estero-fl.gov. The Village is looking for community support for this event to help honor as many Estero veterans as possible.

Lee County has collected 63,000 cubic yards of debris in the first 10 days since post-Hurricane Irma cleanup began. The county is working to create a schedule to show residents when each area of the county can expect to have its first pass-through of debris collection. There are 2,436 miles of county roads that have storm-related horticultural debris to be removed. Lee County anticipates its first pass of horticulture debris collection from the storm will be completed within a month. Volunteers from Rotary District 6960 went right to work to assist residents on Luettich and Sherrill Lanes clean up some of the damage Hurricane Irma inflicted on their neighborhood off West Broadway in Estero. The Rotary Clubs are “adopting” Hurricane Irma-damaged communities, giving priority to those communities with children and the elderly. Lee County Solid Waste will begin regular curbside collection of yard waste Monday. This is the final step in resuming regularly scheduled pickup to households across Lee County since Hurricane Irma hit Sept. 10. Curbside household waste pickup and recycling pickup resumed earlier. Storm debris-related collection is ongoing countywide and is separate from regularly scheduled curbside pickups. Storm debris includes trees, branches, shrubs and other vegetation that was downed during Hurricane Irma. Lee County Utilities has lifted its request for residents to conserve water as it returns to normal operations. Lee County Utilities maintains over 600 lift stations throughout its collection system and power has been restored to most of them. More are regaining power daily.
