Public Hearing – Ordinance 2017-09 – Park Place of Estero This was a second reading and public hearing for Ordinance 2017-09, an amendment allowing a reconfiguration of the Master Concept Plan for the 5 acre-property located at 9400 Block Lane. Lee County Parks & Recreation will reopen the Estero Recreation Center on Friday, October 27. The center’s public recreation and regular programs were suspended while the center was an emergency shelter and Red Cross shelter following Hurricane Irma. Sheltering operations ceased Saturday, October 21. Staff has restored the rec center in order for regular public recreation, programs, classes, and after-school activities to resume. Club Rec, the after-school program, will return to the center as well on Friday.

The Village is inviting all veterans, family, friends and supporters to join in honoring our active and retired military at the Village’s inaugural Veterans Day celebration at the Estero Community Park on Saturday, November 11, 2017. The event will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Estero Life Magazine’s Gary Israel will start the program by singing the National Anthem. The Office of Greenways and Trails recently dropped the Seminole Gulf Railroad Bonita-Estero Trail from their maps, making funds less available for this project. Bonita Springs and Estero have been working together to have the railroad corridor retained for a 9 mile shared use trail starting on the south side of Estero Parkway traveling south to Bonita Beach Road. The goal of the two municipalities is to have the Bonita-Estero Trail connect to the statewide system of trails that provide safe, scenic and shady multimodal paths which also promote healthy lifestyles and low impact tourism to the adjacent communities. Action Item – Resolution No. 2017-19 Council voted to adopt this resolution establishing a fee of $20,000 per unit for Estero’s Bonus Density Program for certain properties, unless a landowner establishes a vested right to a different fee. This program applies only to existing zoned projects that have previously been approved for bonus density by Lee County.  Those projects are Estero Grande, Estero on the River and Downtown Estero.
