Giant poisonous toads are becoming an increasing issue throughout Florida and it is important to keep your pets away from them. Non-native cane toads appear everywhere from the Keys all the way to Lake Okeechobee and have been sighted in Estero recently. Please use caution when walking your pets. Toads are most active in the evening and at night.  When threatened, the toads may excrete a milky poison that oozes from their glands. Lee County Utilities on Tuesday, May 29, will end the free chlorine flush, which will involve converting its disinfection process from a free chlorine residual back to chloramines as the primary disinfectant. The free chlorine flush, which began May 1, is a routine measure common among water utilities that use chloramines as a primary disinfectant. Anyone who uses a kidney dialysis machine at home should contact an equipment supplier so the proper filtering equipment may be installed. Estero Parkway design alternatives Representatives from Agnoli, Barber & Brundage, Inc. gave a presentation on Estero Parkway design alternatives looking at two potential options: 1) A 4-lane roadway with 10.5 ft. lanes, 7-ft. bike lanes and 6-ft. sidewalks on both sides. 2) 2-lane, 12-ft. lanes roadway, from the railroad to Cypress View, 7 ft. bike lanes, 8 – 10 ft. sidewalks on both sides, with three roundabouts.  This option would cost approximately $1 to $1.5 million more than the first option. The Village of Estero will be holding two community workshops to gather input from residents regarding the capital improvement program (CIP).  The CIP outlines the Village’s future capital projects and expenditures. The two public workshops will be held in the Council Chambers at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 5, and 6:30 p.m., Thursday, June 7, 2018.  Village staff will be conducting these informal workshops both in the morning and evening hours in an attempt to allow as many residents as possible to participate in the budget planning process.
