Public Comment Barbara Saxton, Friends of River Oaks Preserve, stated the group is now comprised of 12 members. Volunteers from FGCU and the ROTC will be helping clear some of the invasives on the property and the group is planning a music festival in November. A resolution authorizing the purchase of 62.05± acres of land adjacent to the Estero River, the first reading of an ordinance permitting the 135-room Miromar Outlet Hotel and the first reading of an ordinance establishing security measure requirements for owners and operators of retail gas pumps are on the Council meeting agenda at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 17. Ribbon-cutting ceremony conducted for Genova, first residential community in Estero’s Village Center

“Salute to Veterans” planning team looking for volunteers
The Village of Estero will salute all Estero veterans, active military, first responders and gold star parents from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., Saturday, November 17 with a free, family-oriented party at the Estero Community Park. The Estero Educational Initiative was established to create a partnership between the Village of Estero and the Lee County School District to help make the schools in Estero the best they can be. Hertz Arena, Heartland Dental and Shoppes at University Highlands presented to the Design Review Board on September 26, 2018
A representative for the applicant presented their proposed colors for repainting the exterior surfaces of Germain Arena located at 11000 Everblades Parkway, west of Ben Hill Griffin Parkway and north of Corkscrew Road. Council approved a reduced tax rate, FY 2018-2019 budget and proposed land purchase at their meeting on September 20, 2018
Council voted to adopt a reduction in the millage rate from 0.7798 to 0.7750 mills. This is the third year Council has reduced the millage rate, which is the lowest tax rate in all of Southwest Florida. In addition, they adopted the FY 2018-2019 budget.
