National Hurricane Preparedness Week May 6-12, 2018
The National Weather Service recommends taking this week to develop an evacuation plan, assemble disaster supplies, get an insurance checkup (now before it’s too late) and complete a written plan. Remember, Hurricane season begins June 1 and lasts 6 months.
Council to conduct zoning hearings for Hilton Garden Inn and Arcos Executive Center at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 9, 2018
There will be a first reading of a zoning ordinance for the Hilton Garden Inn at 8009 Sweetwater Ranch Boulevard near the Estero Fire Rescue station. Public testimony will be taken at the second reading and public hearing. There also will be a second reading and public hearing for the zoning ordinance related to the Arcos Executive Center at the northeast corner of Corkscrew Road and Three Oaks Parkway. Parkside Estero, Arcos Executive Center and Shoppes at University Highlands are on the agenda for the Design Review Board Wednesday, May 9, 2018
The Board will conduct a public hearing for Parkside Estero, the residential portion of Estero Grande. This community will have 198 multi-family units located west of the intersection of Estero Parkway and US 41. In addition, the Board will conduct workshops for the Arcos Executive Center located in the Plaza del Sol on the northeast corner of Corkscrew Road and Three Oaks Parkway, and for the Shoppes at University Highlands west of Ben Hill Griffin Parkway between Everblades Parkway and Miromar Outlet Drive. Council congratulated (front left) Village Land Use Attorney Nancy Stroud and Community Development Director Mary Gibbs on being inducted into the American Institute of Certified Planners, College of Fellows. Only 7 people in the state of Florida were selected for this award, including Gibbs and Stroud, and only 64 nationwide. Public invited to review updated land management plan for Estero Marsh Preserve
The land management plan for Estero Marsh Preserve has been updated to show the work that has been completed on the site during the past 10 years. The plan will be the topic of discussion at a meeting 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, at the Lakes Regional Library, 15290 Bass Road, Fort Myers. Estero Marsh Preserve consists of 244 acres acquired through the Conservation 20/20 program and located within the Estero Bay watershed. The plan describes the preserves and past restoration work. Council will continue a public hearing for the ComTerra Development LLC regarding their proposed 128-room hotel located at 23400 Walden Center Drive south of Coconut Road. Council will set a hearing date for the Comprehensive Plan adoption; approve the Land Development Code agreement and a request for bid for roadway irrigation service. Estero High School culinary students participated in Venue Naples
Estero High School Chef Educator Jeremy Jasper supervised as his culinary students prepared a three course tasting menu at Venue Naples for the first event of the “Stay in May Festival”. Students from Estero High, Lorenzo Walker Technical High and Gulf Coast High prepared themed meals inspired by the music of Rodgers and Hammerstein. Rotary Club of Estero recognized for planting 50 trees in Estero Community Park
Kathy Ball presented a plaque to Tom Patricca in recognition of the Rotary Club of Estero’s purchase of trees for the park. The plaque will hang in the park’s Recreation Center. On Earth Day, April 22, 2018, Kathy Ball, Senior Supervisor, Lee County Parks and Recreation, presented a plaque to Tom Patricca, President, Rotary Club of Estero, for the club’s monetary contribution of $4,000 toward the purchase of 50 native trees for the park.
