Lee County food-rescue campaign begins as seasonal residents head north – Estero Recreation Center
Lee County Solid Waste has created “Donated not Wasted,” a food rescue campaign to encourage seasonal residents and visitors to donate unopened pantry items before returning north. About 70,000 tons, or 13 percent, of the waste stream in Lee County is food, according to a 2016 waste audit. Nationwide, Americans throw out about 30 percent of the available food supply. Large turnout for the Village’s 3rd anniversary celebration in the park
A crowd of approximately 750 locals came to the Estero Community Park to join in the celebration of the Village of Estero’s 3rd anniversary. The party started at 6 p.m. with the music of Billy Dean & Dawn, one of Southwest Florida’s most versatile musical groups who also happen to be Estero residents. Children enjoyed the face painting and crafts along with the stilt walker who created balloon figures and bracelets for them. Public hearings will be conducted for Comterra Development’s proposal for a 5-story, 128-room hotel at 2340 Walden Center Drive, the Arcos Executive Center’s proposed 66,000 square foot office building at the northeast corner of Corkscrew Road and Three Oaks Parkway, and a request to add a hotel use to the Coconut Point DRI at the southwest corner of the intersection of Via Villagio and Sweetwater Ranch Boulevard adjacent to the Estero Fire Station. Public Hearing Springhill Suites Marriott The applicant presented their plans for a 5-story, 100-room hotel located at 10370 Corkscrew Common Drive adjacent to Embassy Suites. Plans call for a fully modern hotel, including double queen rooms and a small bar. Amenities will include a fitness room, bike racks, patio with fire pit and pool wrapped with landscape, as well as enhanced landscaping on the property. Council interviewed board candidates and approved a contract for US 41 landscape design project on February 21, 2018
Board Interviews Council conducted interviews with 11 applicants for the Planning & Zoning Board and the Design Review Board. Additional interviews will be conducted at the March 7 meeting. Action Items US 41 Landscape Beautification Project Council approved a contract with Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc. to proceed with the landscape design work for the medians of US 41 from the northern boundary of Estero to just south of Coconut Road.
