The Village of Estero is closely monitoring Hurricane Dorian as it progresses northward along the eastern coast of Florida, along with our partners in Lee County and the Estero and San Carlos Park Fire teams. Likely Impact: Hurricane Dorian is presently a category 3 storm, though it is not expected to provide a significant impact to Estero. Lee County will begin its second pass of Hurricane Irma debris removal beginning Monday, November 13. Residents are encouraged to use this coming week and next weekend to put all hurricane-related debris at the curb. The second pass will be the final opportunity for hurricane debris pickup. The second and final pass will be for both Construction & Demolition (C&D) and horticulture. Lee County anticipates the second pass to be completed during December 2017. The deadline for Hurricane Irma survivors to register for FEMA individual disaster assistance has been extended to November 24. Federal disaster assistance for individuals and families can include money for rental assistance, essential home repairs, personal property losses and other serious disaster-related needs not covered by insurance. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is operating a Disaster Recovery Center in Lee County to assist Floridians recovering from Hurricane Irma. Lee County Solid Waste will begin regular curbside collection of yard waste Monday. This is the final step in resuming regularly scheduled pickup to households across Lee County since Hurricane Irma hit Sept. 10. Curbside household waste pickup and recycling pickup resumed earlier. Storm debris-related collection is ongoing countywide and is separate from regularly scheduled curbside pickups. Storm debris includes trees, branches, shrubs and other vegetation that was downed during Hurricane Irma. It also includes downed fencing, flooring, furniture, wallboard and other debris that had to be removed from homes due to structural damage or flooding. Lee County Utilities has lifted its request for residents to conserve water as it returns to normal operations. Lee County Utilities maintains over 600 lift stations throughout its collection system and power has been restored to most of them. More are regaining power daily.
