The meeting started with a presentation by Census Bureau Recruiting Manager Don Radcliff.  He described the importance of registering all Estero residents as the results of the 2020 Census will help determine the state’s representation in Congress, as well as how certain funds are spent for schools, hospitals, roads, and more.  They are hiring workers to earn extra income while helping get everyone counted.  If interested, please go to www.2020census.gov/jobs and fill out the application.  (Presentation) Public Hearings Resolution No. 2019-16 – Ad valorem taxes Council approved this resolution, once again reducing the Village’s tax rate.  The new tax rate is 0.7726 [Read More.]

The meeting will start Wednesday evening with a presentation on the US 2020 Census by Census Bureau Recruiting Manager Don Radcliff, followed by public hearings adopting the final levying of ad valorem taxes and approving the FY 2019-2020 budget. Council will then consider two grant applications to the Florida Department of Transportation to pay for the installation of landscaping along US-41 and two options for request for bids for Estero Parkway landscape improvements with and without streetlights. Representatives for Hilton Garden Inn presented their plans for a 115-room, 5-story hotel to be located on the corner of Via Villagio and Sweetwater Ranch Boulevard, just east of the Estero Fire Rescue Coconut Point Station. The proposed building will be undulated vertically and horizontally, and painted in three colors: Venetian yellow, classic yellow and white, along with simulated stone features and a tile roof. The amenities include a restaurant/bar, meeting room and pool. They propose to have 10 off-site parking spaces across the street for use by the staff. The Design Review Board will conduct a public information meeting for the Hilton Garden Inn located on the corner of Via Villagio and Sweetwater Ranch Boulevard, just east of the Estero Fire Rescue Coconut Point at 5:30 p.m. September 11. The Village of Estero is closely monitoring Hurricane Dorian as it progresses northward along the eastern coast of Florida, along with our partners in Lee County and the Estero and San Carlos Park Fire teams. Likely Impact: Hurricane Dorian is presently a category 3 storm, though it is not expected to provide a significant impact to Estero. The projected course will take the storm up the eastern coast of Florida. What We Have Done: All major Village stormwater systems and ditches have been cleared, including the ditch along the railroad. Likely Impact: The weather forecast is clarifying. Hurricane Dorian is presently a category 4, though it is not expected to provide a significant impact to Estero.  Expect 2-5 inches of rain tomorrow, with tropical storm force wind gusts (not sustained), and no storm surge.
