“An Evening under the Shadow Wood” culinary event another success
The third annual fundraiser for the Estero High School Culinary Program at the Shadow Wood Golf & Country Club on December 17, 2018, was completely sold out. The students offered the crowd a special treat, conducting a one-hour competition team demonstration where they created their signature three-course meal in front of their guests. Dinner featured filet mignon accompanied by a signature salad and a trio dessert. Black Seminole history presented at the Estero Historical Society’s Christmas luncheon December 14, 2018
Black Seminole Indian Mathew Griffin gave a vivid and enlightening description of how the Black Seminole tribe came about and how they struggled along with the Seminole Indians during the Seminole War from 1835-1842 at the Estero Historical Society’s annual luncheon at the Villages at Country Creek on December 14. Village Councilmembers joined about 100 other Estero residents who enjoyed this intriguing account of Florida’s history. Councilmembers Jim Wilson, Vice-Mayor Bill Ribble, Jon McLain, Howard Levitan, Mayor Jim Boesch, Katy Errington and Nick Batos joined with other Florida League of Mayors endorsing a “Be Kind” effort to counteract some of the negative messages that exist today. Design Review Board approved new Hertz Arena proposal on December 12, 2018
The Design Review Board conducted a public hearing on December 12 to review the proposed repainting of the exterior surfaces of Hertz Arena. Representatives from Hertz met with neighboring communities to the arena, Tidewater and Grandezza, to address their new proposed paint palette. Hertz demonstrated the views of the arena from the neighboring communities. They addressed where the color yellow would be intrusive to the neighbors, i.e., Tidewater to the north, so the new proposal does not include yellow in that portion of the building, as well as no yellow banding around the roofline at that portion of the building. Tesla showroom and Tommy Bahama Marlin Bar addressed by the Planning & Zoning Board on December 11, 2018
Public Hearings Tesla showroom at Coconut Point Mall Representatives for Simon Properties/Coconut Point and Tesla were requesting an administrative amendment to add Vehicles and Dealers Group 1 to the schedule of uses within Tract 2 of the mall. This would allow a Tesla sales/showroom to be located in the former Grape Base location. No more than 20 Tesla models would be displayed inside and out, including behind the movie theater. Council will consider waiving contingencies and move to closing on the Estero on the River property at their meeting at 9:30 a.m., December 12. In addition, two separate potential actions are provided for Council’s consideration to establish the Estero Parkway project’s construction budget. Council will also address the branding and roadway monument signage contract, determine whether to conduct early voting for the March 5, 2019 election, and whether to hire a consultant selected by staff to conduct a peer review of the Mine Report by Stuart & Associates. Estero on the River bank loan, US 41 median landscaping and Estero Parkway among items addressed by Council on December 5, 2018 Action Items
Estero on the River 10-year Bank Loan Council approved awarding the fixed rate, 10-year bank loan RFP to Capital Bank, a division of First Tennessee Bank to provide funding for the Estero on the River land purchase. The purchase price of $26,000,000 will be funded by a down payment of $5,000,000 from the general fund and debt providing for the remainder of $21,000,000. Public Resources Advisory Group (PRAG) was engaged to develop the Request for Proposals and First Tennessee bank provided the lowest rate. Tesla showroom and Tommy Bahama Marlin Bar on the agenda for the Planning & Zoning Board meeting Tuesday, December 11, 2018
The Planning & Zoning Board will conduct public hearings for a Tesla showroom and the Tommy Bahama Marlin Bar, both located at Coconut Point Mall, at 5:30 p.m., December 11. The Tesla sales/showroom will be located in the former Grape Base location. Tesla models (2 to 3 cars) will be displayed within their space. Approximately 7 parking spaces and charging stations will be located across from the southerly corner of the Tesla tenant space.
