Council reviewed Comprehensive Plan’s Housing and Infrastructure elements during November 29, 2017, workshop
Mary Gibbs, Community Development Director, initiated the workshop by stating the Comprehensive Plan must be transmitted to the state in early January and is expected to be adopted sometime in late March 2018. Ben Smith, LaRue Planning and Management Services, reviewed the major objectives of the Housing element which include protecting neighborhood integrity and compatibility, recognition of historic housing and sustaining the current affordable housing in Estero. Another objective is aging and special needs population, and Smith noted that Estero has a higher population of elderly than many other communities so this is an important objective. Support Estero High School athletes while choosing your Christmas tree
Pick out your 6 foot to 11 foot Fraser Fir tree and support Estero High School athletes at the same time. The Estero High School Booster Club is holding a holiday tree fundraiser Saturday and Sunday, December 2 & 3, from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the River Ranch Road entrance. Trees will be sold on a first come, first served basis so they suggest you come early. Snacks and beverages will also be available for sale both days. All profits will benefit the student athletes.

Vice-Mayor Ribble named Southwest Florida League of Cities Vice-President
The Southwest Florida League of Cities (SWFLC) recently announced its 2018 officers, including the Village of Estero’s District 1 Councilmember and Vice-Mayor Bill Ribble serving as Vice President. Other SWFLC officers will be City of Punta Gorda Mayor Rachel Keesling as President, City of Bonita Springs Councilman Fred Forbes as Treasurer, and City of Sanibel Vice-Mayor Mick Denham as Secretary. “An Evening under the Shadow Wood” supports Estero students
The second annual fundraiser for the Estero High School Culinary Program will be held on Monday, December 18, at 6 p.m., at the Shadow Wood Country Club. Chef Educator Jeremy Jasper and his students will offer a special treat, conducting a full, one-hour competition team demonstration where they will create their signature three-course meal in front of their guests. Resolution 2017-31 This resolution was adopted as part of the Consent Agenda. It supports the designation of the Coach Jeff Sommer Memorial Highway on U.S. 41 from the north to southern boundaries of the Village of Estero. (Resolution 2017-31) Ordinance 2nd Reading and Public Hearing – Ordinance 2017-10 Council voted to adopt this ordinance to prohibit medical marijuana facilities within the boundaries of the Village. Ban on medical marijuana dispensaries, qualifications for Design Review Board and Estero Parkway among items on the agenda for the Village Council November 15, 2017
The Village Council will address ordinances regarding a ban on medical marijuana dispensaries and changing the qualifications for the Design Review Board, and resolutions regarding 2018 meeting dates, approving a budget amendment and a contract for Estero Parkway master plan. There will also be workshops pertaining to the Comprehensive Plan’s conservation & coastal management element, capital improvements and intergovernmental coordination.
