Thought you were signed up to vote by mail but didn’t receive a ballot for the recent Estero Village Council election? The reason is requests for vote-by-mail ballots expire. 10,688 Estero residents voted by mail in the November 2018 general election. The Lee County Supervisor of Elections only mailed 3,819 ballots for the March Estero election. That means almost 7,000 vote-by-mail requests had expired. Hurricane Irma reimbursement and Bonita Springs-Estero Economic Development Council among topics for the Village Council on Wednesday, April 3, 2019
Council will address a Hurricane Irma reimbursement contract at their meeting at 9:30 a.m. April 3. The Village will receive $43,699 in Federal funds and $5,867 in State funds through this agreement. Later contract amendments are expected to provide an additional $120,000 of reimbursement funding to the Village. In addition, Council will address a resolution establishing certain policies relating to municipal Code Enforcement and consider supporting the Bonita Springs-Estero Economic Development Council. Estero’s final Bike/Ped workshop was held on March 25, 2019
25 residents turned out for and participated in the final Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan workshop held at the Estero Community Park on March 25. Project consultants presented a summary of the overall project, focusing on the preliminary results and recommendations of the master plan. Topics of the presentation included: public engagement results, bicycle & pedestrian vision and goals, and draft recommendations. Planning & Zoning Board conducted a Public Information Meeting on March 19, 2019, regarding a rezoning request for the old Estero Post Office
The Planning & Zoning Board started their meeting with a Public Information Meeting addressing a request to rezone the property at 8111 Broadway East from agriculture to commercial use. This site was originally developed as Estero’s first post office. The applicant is proposing to add a new facade to the building to fit in with Estero standards. They presented artist’s concepts showing the addition of windows at the front of the building and towers at each end of the building, rising to a height of 24’6”. Sprouts Farmers Market presented at the Design Review Board on March 13, 2019
Workshop Representatives for Sprouts Farmers Market at Estero Grande presented their plans for a 29,000 sq. ft. grocery store, associated parking, infrastructure and monument sign before the Design Review Board on March 13. The applicants stated they have made a number of changes to the building’s architectural design following February’s Public Information Meeting. They have added a more Spanish mission style look to the corners of the building similar to adjacent stores, lightened the color of the building and changed the stone color as well to provide a more Mediterranean look.
